When I first began my art experience in honors art, I thought it would be quite simple. As time passed by, I quickly realized the opposite. This course has challenged me in every aspect. From the projects, to the sketch book assignments, and the blog posts. I still remember the first drawing we all made as a class. It was a portal to open our imaginations, and share our creativity with our classmates. This entire quarter we have focused on the elements of arts and the principles of design. We were asked to apply these elements in a handmade book. It was a great experience, and I’m glad of how my book turned out to be. My sketch book is basically my life. I have poured out my emotions onto it, and seen it grow day by day. Then I have this internet portal to share my art online. It allows my classmates and my teacher to see my art choices and gain knowledge of what I am posting. Overall, my art experience has been among the best. I can honestly say that honors art is my favorite class of the day. It is the only class that allows me to express myself through drawing and be myself with my teacher. Art is no longer just scribbles or stick figures, it’s a subject full of wonder.

Post. 7
Throughout this experience I have learned my true identity within the art world. I never really understood how many elements could create art works above the ordinary. In order to create a book as presented above, one must have pactience and love for what they are doing. I enjoyed cutting out the shapes to my book, because it felt as though my scissor skills had improved. What was very challenging though, was balancing all my elements and making the book feel complete. I would enjoy making another handmade book, and I would potentially make changes. Changes such as laying out my pieces, and visualizing where those pices would look best within the book. My handmade book tells a story of a beautiful disaster, including thunderstorms and how love can eat you up.

Light in the Dark corners of our soul
mixed media handmade book
3"x 8"x 3"
When I first saw this handmade book close up, I was amazed. I somehow saw myself in this work of art. I can relate too it so much, noting the fact that the artistic style used in it very much relates to the type of art I produce. Not only does it show a 3 dimension swirl, but it also combines two contrasting colors that emphasize the complete book. At the same time, I feel as if though I lived inside this book. The small branch-like objects sticking out just complete this handmade book. The title also fits very well to the actual art piece. Reason being is because although the exterior of the book is white, the interior is brought to life with a dark black color scheme.

Michael D. Edens, Untitled,2008
This is a perfect example of abstract, to me. I can see many effects through my eyes, such as line, value, and form. Although this looks like someone splattered paint all over it, it holds precision. The element of line is presented throughout the overall art work. The lines vary in size from length to the width of every single one. Value is seen in the background. It is very dark, and then immediately turns lighter. This shows two contrasting shades coming together to produce a powerful art work. And finally, form is introduced by all the elements I mentioned. All of the lines and colors seem to make this painting pop out. It seems to be as if these lines are all tangled up, and are in search for something to feed on. I believe this art work represents a lost soul. A soul trying to find its place in a world, a light and dark world.

Alexander Mcqueen, Spring 2010 Collection Sketch, 2010
The design presented above was one of McQueen's last before his death. His visionary works transformed the fashion industry into something above average. The elements that I see are color and value. This sketch consists of many shades of the color brown. From the top of the design, to the very end of it, the color brown is used in a unique matter. Value can also be seen with the levels of brown. It seems that a light yellow is used in the center of the garments, and as it slowly progresses it changes into brown.
The principles I notice are emphasis and unity. The face of the women sketched in this is very powerful. In fact, without the garments on her, it would still be considered a work of art. The black circles covering her eyes, I believe is the emphasis. It seems like a dark world, and a dark set of eyes looking outward at the world. Unity is presented by the top and bottom garment. Without the top, this would not be complete. The same goes for the bottom part. With the two pieces of garments, this design seems complete.

Salvador Dali, Swans Reflecting Elephants, 1937
"Swans reflecting Elephants", depicts many details and objects brought together in a pond like setting. Around this pond is a blue sky, brown rocks, and clouds. In the pond, their are 3 swans with a reflection of elephants coming from the pond. It has a mixture of light and dark colors. On the far left side of this painting, you can see a portrait of the artist himself, Salvador Dali. He seems thinkitive and wise.
This painting seems to have a double meaning. Not only for the swans, but also for Salvador. I believe he depicts himslef as a swan, and as an elephant. He has two sides , and he lives depending on these two sides. I believe that sometimes he pictured himself as a weak human being, and other times as a courages person. Another aspect I found from the reflections is the different kinds of times one will experience in their lifes. Sometimes positive and sometimes negative moments will appear that can strangthen or weaken a huma being.
If I could interview Salvador Dali, here are some questions I would ask:
1). Why did you include yourself in this painting?
2). Why a pond, and not a mirror?
3). What do the tress in the back of the swans represent?
4). Why did you choose to use swans and elephants?

Post 2. Reflection on, "Race and Gender Criticism"
Not only did this article state the truth about todays art, but it also allowed me to understand why many of todays art pieces are excluded. To start things off, most Western art exhibits are excluding colored and women artists and their art. This is a problem because it doesn't allow for their emotions and feelings to be portrayed. The new generation in which I live in can be an advantage in changing this problem. We can all get together and produce art from all forms of color and race. By this, we are allowing for any person to produce any kind of art they wish to make. Although adults can also have a voice in this, I believe its up to us to change it.
What other countries in the world are beginning to show variety in their art?
Why has there been no change towards colored and women art being more broad?

Post 1. First Art Experience
The very first art experience dates back to when I was in kindergarden. It was a very creative experience that allowed me to use almost all the colors I enjoy painting with. The assignment was to go inside a giant cardboard box and hand paint it using big buckets of different paints. They included red, blue, yelow, green, purple, and even grey paint. At first it was very dull and dark inside the box, but as all the kids ran in and out, it became much brighter. Some kids splattered their hands, others simply pressed their hands against the cardboard, but I simply used my fingertips. In the end, the box was filled with different colors that made it shine and look incredibly good.
